Overview
Moutushi Chakraborty is a Kolkata-based artist and academician working across prints, drawings, paintings, collage, and mixed media. Her practice examines the feminine body as a discursive entity, challenging identity constructs from the Colonial to Post-Colonial era. Using dark humor, she celebrates feminine resilience while questioning societal norms.
An alumna of Wimbledon School of Art (UK), M.S. University, Baroda, and Visva-Bharati Santiniketan, she has received the Commonwealth Foundation Fellowship and the Charles Wallace India Trust Award. She has taught in Delhi, Bangalore, and Kolkata.
Her solo show The Homeland was held at India International Centre, Delhi (2019). Notable group exhibitions include In Search Of Imperatives (KCC, Kolkata, 2023), DARSHAK/DASHAK (Bihar Museum, 2023), Republic’s 100 Years 100 Artworks (Turkey, 2023), The Road Less Travelled (Lalithakala Akademi, Kerala, 2022), India Art Fair (2020), Pluralism (MSU Denver, 2018), 1st Print Biennale (New Delhi, 2018), India Inked (2017-18), and Busan International Art Fair (South Korea, 2017).
Currently based in Kolkata, India.
